CHANTILLY, VA, August 20, 2007 – BIA Information Network, (http://www.activeaccess.com) a leading provider of private-label desktop applications, announced today its ActiveAccess technology has been deployed by Hoak Media television station KVLY-TV11/NBC in Fargo, ND. Through its website, the station will offer the free downloadable application to the Red River Valley area as KVLY Desktop Alert. Once loaded on a personal computer KVLY Desktop Alert will automatically deliver breaking news, weather, and sports updates while displaying the station's logo and cross-promotions with its advertisers. The application can be downloaded from: http://www.kvlytv11.com/desktop_alert/desktop_alert_home.shtml.
We have made a commitment this year to identify new strategic ways to differentiate our station from our competitors and enhance the exposure of our advertisers outside of our daily broadcasts," said KVLY General Manager Charley Johnson. “KVLY Desktop Alert's technology will help us build mindshare and marketshare in the Valley's viewing area by providing important news and information in a way that is unique and beneficial beyond the reach of our television station."
Rich Adams, the COO and executive vice president of Hoak Media, was instrumental in the selection of the ActiveAccess technology for KVLY Desktop Alert based on its success while he was general manager of KWTX in Waco, Texas.
"In Waco, our advertisers quickly recognized the power of this desktop technology because of its high usage rates and the ability to target the audience and reach them at all hours of the day," said Adams. "I expect KVLY Desktop Alert to become popular among users and advertisers in mutually satisfactory ways."
Haidee Calore, senior vice president and general manager for BIA Information Network, said, "Our ActiveAccess technology is an effective way for Hoak Media to expand its connection with the community beyond the airways and increase its revenue stream by offering a unique product to its advertisers. As more people continue to use Internet technologies for news and information they will rely on trusted broadcast sources like KVLY. This technology gives Hoak the opportunity to differentiate itself, while at the same time maximizing impact for their sponsors."
KVLY Desktop Alert, will deliver the station's news, local and national weather information, streaming videos and alerts directly to the computer desktops of residents in Fargo and surrounding areas. KVLY Desktop Alert will also send out personalized communications and station promotions based on the information each user provides at sign-up. KVLY-TV can also collaborate with advertisers by providing contextual content. KVLY Desktop Alert can be downloaded directly from the station’s website, http://www.kvlytv11.com. KVLY Desktop Alert is a non-intrusive, light-weight program containing no adware, spyware or spam.
